On February 7, 2024, at 2:24 PM, the Webster Fire Department was dispatched to the 1400 block of State Road for multiple calls of a truck on fire. Engine 103 arrived at the corrected address of 1320 State Road, Schantz Park, with a large pile of garbage on fire directly behind a garbage truck. Crews from E103 and E102 extinguished the fire quickly and Webster Fire remained on scene until the garbage collection company completed their extensive cleanup.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the operator of the garbage truck observed the back of his truck smoking heavily while traveling west on State Road near Harris Road. The operator wisely pulled into the parking lot of Schantz Park and unloaded his load of burning garbage in the parking lot, off of the roadway and away from structures. Representatives from the Town of Webster Fire Marshal’s Office and the Village of Webster responded to the scene. State Road was closed to all traffic between Webster Road and Phillips Road while the fire was extinguished and cleanup operations were completed.
