The Webster Fire Department was busy this past weekend responding to 12 calls over the Friday through Sunday time period. On Sunday, June 6th, Webster Fire responded to 2 reported structure fires hours apart. The first structure fire was reported on Maryview Drive in the Town of Penfield. Calls were received that the side of a house was on fire. Command arrived and advised that the fire appeared to be out having been extinguished by a resident using a garden hose. Preliminary information was that a resident had an object on fire inside the home and thought they had completely extinguished it. The resident placed the object outside on a bench and it reignited setting the side of the home on fire. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before it extended into the roof area of the home.

A few hours later Webster Fire was dispatched to an Elm Street address in the Village of Webster for a reported porch fire. Preliminary information in this incident was that some landscaping mulch near the front porch of the home ignited. The mulch fire near the structure resulted in a lot of smoke in the area. A passing West Webster volunteer firefighter observed the mulch fire and was able to extinguish it with a garden hose. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before significant damage was caused to the home.
